Be it in the forced adoption of a new currency à la the Euro in the European Union or the outmoding of particular technologies, people struggle to move away from that with which they are comfortable. Video games and violence: Blame the Parents 2

The Telescope, Palomar College, San Marcos, CA

There are many influences in a young person's life that can plant the seed of violence in their minds, but to solely place the blame for acts of aggression on a video game is simply absurd.

While yes, video games such as "Grand Theft Auto" (a game in which you are able to roam through various cities creating havoc in the streets and shooting cops) or "Resident Evil" (a game in which you may see a woman with a pitchfork stabbed through her face within the first minutes of play) go to violent extremities, they cannot be to blame for brutal acts that occur in the real world.

LACMA Exhibit Embraces the Sensuous Art of Renoir 1

The Occidental Weekly, Occidental College, Los Angeles, CA

9 hours ago by Martin Cramer

While catching my breath after rushing up the stairs toward the ticket window at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), I stood in awed silence beneath the towering architectural structures, eagerly awaiting the unique artistic display housed within the museum. In a special exhibition entitled "Renoir in the Twentieth Century," LACMA displays a collection of the iconic impressionist painter's lesser known and more controversial modernist works. The museum's press release describes the event as an attempt "[to bridge] the perceived divide between the art of the late nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries [through Renoir's art]."

Just like the zombies that plague his movies, George Romero's films just keep coming back.

Director Breck Eisner's remake of Romero's 1973 film "The Crazies" is just about as unwelcome as a zombie's return. While good for a cheap thrill, the film lacks originality and has a serious set of flaws that makes about 90 percent of the movie a waste of time.

A Response to Cocktail Conservatism

Every political group tries to claim the middle ground by labeling its opponents the extremes. To Jefferson, the Hamiltonians were all monarchists; to Hamilton, the Jeffersonians were all mobocrats. To such thinking, Lincoln becomes an abolitionist, and Douglas is pro-slavery - crude simplifications which fail to capture the depth of each man's political thought.
